The Xbox 360 is the next version of the ordinary Xbox. Thus few additional features have been added to the new console. The red light error occurs when the power ring shifts from green light to red light. The number of lights glowing decides the type of the error. The reason is found as the failure of the cooling system and as a result the temperature raises and causes the failure of the processors.
SOLUTION
The solution to the red light error is to have an additional cooling system to the console's motherboard so that the temperature is maintained at normal level. For this many suggested various techniques like adding an additional fan, removing the X clamp, reconfiguring the design, etc. But from the users point of view the simple technique is the removal of the X clamps from the motherboard as it provides enough air from the external environment.
Also many gamers suggested that the convenient method of repairing was to repair the console by the owners instead of giving the console to service centers. You need to wait for 4 to 12 weeks to get it repaired from service center and you can't repair modded console at any cost in the service centers. Moreover, it is not a permanent fix.
